There's no swimming in lake quannapowitt. There hasn't been for a good 20 years or so. There used to be 2 public beaches there. One on the north end called colonel Connelly park & one on the southern part of the lake next to the common called Spaulding St beach. Spaulding St beach was closed down in the 80's due to budget cuts. People knew how polluted the lake was so nobody was going swimming in the other beach & the town was losing money hiring lifeguards & the lake just became so contaminated it was too dangerous to swim in so they closed it down but people just presumed it was closed for years because nobody would swim there.
