The Chennai City police have registered a case against members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for organising a protest against the sexual assault on a student of Anna University, by carrying a cloth dummy symbolising the ruling DMK and insisting that it be “treated for weakness” at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

A second-year student of Anna University was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused on the university campus on December 23. The accused, 37-year-old Gnanasekharan, who works as a food vendor, was arrested by police from Kotturpuram.

The SIT, comprising women IPS officers, will also examine the leak of the First Information Report (FIR), which led to the disclosure of the victim's identity.
