Mount Sinai Beth Israel finally has a closing date set following a long-drawn-out legal battle. Beth Israel, founded in 1889, is located at First Avenue and E 16th St., with no major hospitals below E 16th St.

Hon. Jeffrey Pearlman, who presides over a state court in Manhattan, dismissed a lawsuit filed by health advocates and community members aiming to overturn the state’s decision to approve Beth Israel’s closure. The lawsuit argued that the Department of Health’s approval was unreasonable and sought to revoke the decision.
