Casper Ruud reached the Madrid Open semi-finals with a 6-3, 7-5 straight sets triumph over Daniil Medvedev on Thursday. The Norwegian ousted Taylor Fritz to reach the quarter-finals and secured his first win against the Russian in their fourth meeting.

Holger Rune has yet to lose a set at the Madrid Masters. The Norwegian faced Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-final and earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory in an hour and 40 minutes. Thus, Casper earned his first victory over Daniil and reached his ninth Masters 1000 semi-final.

Since the ATP Masters 1000 format was introduced in 1990, Casper Ruud is just the third player to win each of his first seven quarter-finals on clay, after Guillermo Coria and Rafael Nadal
