A wildfire burning in Rio Blanco County has scorched more than 14,000 acres, fire officials said Tuesday. The Lee fire, which has since absorbed the Grease fire that also started near Meeker, was last mapped at 14,426 acres, fire officials said.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency on Sunday for the Elk Creek Fire in Rio Blanco County, southeast of Meeker.

Multiple evacuation orders have been issued for Rio Blanco county in northwest Colorado due to fast-moving wildfires. The Lee Fire has nearly doubled in size as it approaches the town of Meeker.
