A carnival atmosphere will be created for the opening match of this summer's Women's Rugby World Cup, councillors in its host city have promised. England will get the tournament under way in Sunderland on Friday 22 August when they take on the United States of America.

While the U.S. have already hosted the tournament twice, 2035 would be the first Women's World Cup to be held in the UK. The Lionesses won their last home tournament -- Euro 2022

England manager Sarina Wiegman says the UK's bid to host the 2035 World Cup is really "exciting news" and that an expansion to 48 teams would "empower" the women's game.
