Empire Sports Media on MSNKnicks’ All-Star big man could see astronomical growth under new head coachThe New York Knicks will have a different feel to their on-court performances next season. With Mike Brown now as the new head coach, succeeding Tom Thibodeau, New York is prioritizing a better offensive plan to win more games.
The New York Knicks improved their bench this offseason with the signings of Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. In addition, they still have Miles McBride as the primary backup to Jalen Brunson.
One name to keep an eye on could be former No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons. He is still available on the free agency market and the Knicks have been connected as a possible suitor.
The Knicks’ 104-86 loss to the Pistons quickly became a bad example of new coach Mike Brown’s vision to play faster.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Pablo Prigioni — who the Knicks recently requested, and were granted permission to interview — decided to stay in Minnesota. According to Begley, family reasons were the driving factor behind the decision.
The Knicks are eyeing backcourt help after adding Jordan Clarkson. One former No. 1 pick might be their next low-risk, high-upside move.
Mike Brown relayed a preference to facilitate a speedier offense, declaring in his introductory press conference, “Everybody knows I like to play fast.” In Sacramento, Brown’s teams were middle of the road in pace – ranking No. 12 and No. 14 during the coach’s two full seasons.
On Friday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Brown will not be retaining assistant coaches Nick Thibodeau — the nephew of Tom — Othella Harrington, Dice Yoshimoto, Daniel Brady, and Andy Greer, who were all apart of Tom Thibodeau’s staff during his Knicks tenure.
