Dow Jones sinks 400 points as tech giants like Microsoft, Apple, and Nvidia lead sharp declines. Energy stocks offer limited support.

The Dow Jones dropped 280 points Friday as Treasury yields continued to rise. Nvidia stock and Tesla sold off on the stock market today.

The Dow was lower by around 350 points, or 0.7%, in early-afternoon trading, the S&P 500 lost 1.2% and the Nasdaq Composite was down by 1.6% after a selloff in Big Tech stocks. Shares of Tesla ( TSLA) fell by around 4.5%, while Amazon ( AMZN ), Alphabet ( GOOG ), Microsoft ( MSFT )and Nvidia ( NVDA) were all lower by around 2%.

Wall Street limped to a downbeat end of the trading week on Friday as a sell-off in Big Tech stocks dragged the Dow Jones Industrial Index down by more than 500 points at one point during the session.

Stocks fell in morning trading Friday as Wall Street closes out a holiday-shortened week. The S&P 500 fell 1.4%, with more than 80% of stocks in the benchmark index losing ground. Still, the index is managing to hold onto a modest gain for the week.
