Bone-chilling cold continued across Kashmir on Friday as dense fog made pedestrian and traffic movement difficult in the morning in J&K’s Srinagar city. A thick blanket of fog covered Srinagar city and suburban areas as the unabated cold continued.

Srinagar- Flight operations at the Srinagar airport were hit on Saturday due to dense fog that engulfed parts of the Kashmir valley, officials said.

Srinagar recorded about eight inches of snow while neighbouring Ganderbal recorded about seven inches. Sonamarg, a famous tourist destination, recorded around eight inches of snow. As many as 80 flights were cancelled.

Normal life was thrown out of gear in Kashmir as most areas of the valley received snowfall, disrupting flight and railway operations and also leading to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

A dense fog blanketed various parts of north India in the early hours of Saturday, reducing visibility to zero in several areas. Road traffic in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana moved at a snail’s pace as commuters struggled to navigate through the thick fog cover.
