The Canadian government has asked oil companies to release some of their reserves to support the International Energy Agency ’s plan to inject 400 million barrels of stockpiled oil into the market.

CALGARY — The war raging in the Middle East has jolted global energy markets, prompting the International Energy Agency to release the largest amount ever from member states' emergency oil stocks.

The Paris-based organization said it will make 400 million barrels of oil available from its members’ emergency reserves.
