The Forest Service mature and old-growth forest inventory maps were created at what’s called a “fireshed” scale. Firesheds are 250,000 acres each, or roughly 390 square miles.

The app provides access to Forest Service maps, such as motor-vehicle-use maps, which are free. Pages from national forest atlases are 99 cents and forest visitor maps are $4.99.

The U.S. Forest Service now offers access to variety of visitor maps for people using Android and iOS devices.

The Forest Service's Northern Region manages 1,952 distinct watersheds in the national forests and grasslands of Montana, Idaho, and North and South Dakota. The map breaks them out by national forest.
