Whitmer to declare state of emergency after severe storm
Governor Gretchen Whitmer will declare a state of emergency for several counties affected by the severe storm Friday that killed four, injured more than a dozen and left thousands without power.
The stage is set for a fight over the budget as Whitmer's proposal is built around tax hikes and a reserve fund withdrawal the House speaker opposes.
Whitmer is one of three U.S. political figures selected for the 2026 honor by Americans for the Arts. She'll accept the award March 11 in Lansing.
