A NEXT Weather Alert is in place Sunday morning as storms move across southern Minnesota. That system features gusty winds and flooding downpours. It will weaken as it lifts toward the Twin Cities, leading to some dry time this afternoon.

Southern Minnesota has already experienced a long line of storms that brought persistent heavy rain to the region early Sunday morning, with 2-4 inches of rain falling and sparking a series of flash flooding warnings near Marshall and Mankato.

As storms approach the Twin Cities and eastern Minnesota, they are weakening, prompting fewer severe thunderstorm warnings. However, there is still heavy rain, strong winds and plenty of lightning and thunder. There is a special weather statement for winds and heavy rain in the Twin Cities through 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
