Small plane crashes in ocean off North Carolina coast; pilot rescued
OAK ISLAND, N.C. -- A pilot was rescued Saturday after making an emergency landing in the ocean near a pier in Oak Island, North Carolina. The Town's Beach Safety Unit, who were already in the area responding to a water rescue nearby, were able to quickly assist pilot Mark Finkelstein, who was the only one on board.
AMREF said it is cooperating fully with aviation authorities and emergency responders to determine the cause of the crash.

SANFORD, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina family of four, including two school-age children, died when their small plane crashed as they flew back from Florida.
The airport is about 45 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina. The crash caused over 18,000 outages, but power was fully restored around 1:30 p.m., local station WCNC reported.
