Warner Bros./DC Studios' "Superman" is off and flying at the box office with $22.5 million from preview screenings, the most for any film this year. That total is nearly double the $11.5 million preview total of Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" and the $12 million preview total of "Captain America: Brave New World.

Marvel's Thunderbolts* underwhelmed at the box office, but the film has emerged as a massive PVOD hit for the studio.

Gunn’s “Superman” also outperformed recent comic book movies from both studios. Marvel’s last release, "Thunderbolts*," debuted at $74.3 million in May, and before that, “Captain America: Brave New World” premiered at $88.8 million.
