Parts of Georgia and Carolinas are digging out from a winter storm on Saturday after it produced heavy snow, freezing rain and ice across the region, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of customers.

Atlanta is bracing for freezing conditions and icy roads as temperatures drop and wintry weather continues to affect the region. Here’s a simplified breakdown of what you need to know:

ATLANTA — An impactful winter storm has already brought accumulating snow for many, and a wintry mix of precipitation. Some freezing drizzle lingers overnight. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for metro Atlanta and much of north Georgia, shown in pink, until 7 a.m. Saturday.

Storm Cora has paralyzed the South, bringing historic snowfall to Nashville and Memphis, rare snow to Charlotte, North Carolina, and record-breaking icy conditions to parts of Kentucky, Texas and Georgia,

Right now, we are still 48 hours away from the winter event, but as we get closer, it is likely to be upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory or a Winter Storm Warning.
