The sweeping tax-and-spending package now heads to President Donald Trump's desk a day before his July 4 deadline.

P resident Donald Trump's major tax cut and spending bill passed the House on Thursday, but not without some Republican opposition. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania voted against the legislation alongside the entire House Democratic Caucus.

On July 3, Fitzpatrick was the only Republican opposed to the rule that set up a straight up-or-down vote on the Senate's version of the bill. The near unanimity came after Trump hosted skeptical lawmakers at the White House to answer their questions, worked the phones overnight and cheered the vote through social media.
