India and Pakistan will figure out relations between themselves, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday as tensions soared between the two neighboring countries after an attack in India's Kashmir region that was the worst in nearly two decades.

The clash took place just days after a terror attack killed 26 people on the Indian side of the disputed region, raising tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations.

A day after the U.N. appealed for restraint following Tuesday's deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, India reported an exchange of fire across the de facto border in the disputed region.
