The Texas Longhorns should be in good hands for the future, with two of their future players making waves by being named to a prestigious award watch list.

Outside hitters Torrey Stafford and Cari Spears both earned All-SEC first-team honors. Stafford, a junior who's on the AVCA National Player of the Year semifinalist list, recorded a team-leading 394 kills with 4.

As the Longhorns head into a matchup with Arkansas, much of the attention is on their CFP hopes. While the path is there, it's incredibly unlikely.

Defensively, the Hogs need to limit explosive plays. The Longhorns have the ability to stretch defenses vertically and create quick scoring drives. The Razorbacks have struggled at times with missed tackles and coverage lapses that allow opponents to extend possessions.

After near disasters at Kentucky and Mississippi State, the Longhorns have lost the ability to assume anything, even if the oddsmakers have installed them as 10½-point favorites over the Razorbacks, who have lost nine straight league games dating back to last year.

Was it surprising that Georgia beat Texas football at home? No. Georgia’s the program to beat in college football at the moment. Was it surprising how loud Sanford Stadium was? Absolutely. At least for Texas minister of culture Matthew McConaughey.
