After India declined Ben Stokes' offer of a draw, a viral video appeared to show that the England captain did not shake hands with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar after the Manchester Test ended.

India’s response was built on resolve, patience and flair – most notably from Gill and KL Rahul, who stitched a 188-run third-wicket stand. Rahul, rock-solid for 230 balls, fell nine short of a century to an unplayable nip-backer from Ben Stokes, but by then had already laid a solid platform.

Ravindra Jadeja now has 34 wickets in England, in addition to scoring more than 1000 runs. He now becomes the second away player in the world after Sir Garfield Sobers to score 1000+ runs and take 30+ wickets in England.

The match ended in farcical circumstances when batter Harry Brook came on to bowl with Sundar on 80 and Jadeja on 89. Stokes told the umpires that England were done and offered India’s batters a handshake, but the rival skipper Gill declined, opting to put more overs into the opposition’s legs and pursue hundreds.
