West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Saturday announced he is deploying between 300 and 400 of the state's National Guard troops to Washington to help "restore cleanliness and safety."

With his efforts to take control of law enforcement in Washington, D.C., this week, President Trump has pushed the issue of crime back to the foreground of American politics.

After the announcements, Mayor Bowser posted on X: "American soldiers and airmen policing American citizens on American soil is #UnAmerican."
