Guy Lombardo and his “Royal Canadians” were the hosts of New York’s go-to New Year’s Eve celebration every year from 1966 to 1976 at the Waldorf Astoria. Lombardo, known as “Mr. New Year’s Eve,” hosted the black-tie gala—complete with filet mignon dinner, balloon drop from the Grand Ballroom mezzanine, and a full band that had guests dancing until 3am.
